Second Opinion - Far Cry (PC)

by Sideath
original review

The PC is no place for Generic shooters! Munki cries.

Far Cry is not generic. Far from it. Indeed, it couldn't last a match against Half Life 2, but at least it's better than Doom 3... and surely it's worth more than 6 and a half out of ten! OK, the storyline isn't sublime, the control system and gameplay isn't revolutionary, and the audio isn't the best in the world, and definetly does not match up to the amazing atmosphere of Thief: Deadly Shadows.

But the graphics... OMG the graphics. The recent 64bit patch (specially for 64bit processors - HA! HA!) makes the game look amazing - even better than the first-batch games for the next gen consoles X360 and PS3. It is on this beauty alone that everyone should have at least a look.

It's still a very solid game mind - there are very few bugs, only the most sad people (i.e. me) would notice them - the control system is stable. And the storyline, although generic, isn't as boring as that of Doom 3.

Still, it has been overrated (PCGamer 92%? EDGE 8/10, considering San Andreas got 8/10), and although my figure isn't as a low as that of Munki's it certain isn't brilliant:

seven out of ten
(add another half point if you own a Athlon64 and have downloader the 64bit patch)
